18th February , 2013

Dear

On Monday 4th February, I had the pleasure of visiting your school in order to observe Vekraman A/L Krishnan’s English lesson. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and Vekraman for an interesting and enjoyable experience.

The purpose of visiting your school was much more for my benefit than for Vekraman’s, as seeing what happens inside a Malaysian English language classroom helps me to better understand Malaysian teachers and informs my training as part of the Ministry of Education’s Pro ELT project, which Vekraman is attending. I came to observe as a peer and there was no intention to judge Vekraman or your school.

It was most enjoyable to observe Vekraman’s class. His students were engaged and interested in the class and Vekraman used many up-to-date techniques to deliver his lesson, such as using flashcards in a variety of ways, elicitation and the use of modern technology to assist his teaching.

I found Vekraman’s instructions to be clear and focussed and I liked the way that he summarised the lesson by asking questions at the end. Finally, it was encouraging to see that the whole class was conducted in English.

The whole experience was interesting and useful for me and it gives me further insight into the already high standards of teaching in Melaka state.

Once again, thank you for allowing me to visit and feel free to call on me if you need any assistance in the future.

Yours sincerely,

Justin Miller
